Description Designed for sampling meat and turkey carcasses to test for the presence of E. coli. Nasco Whirl-Pak bags are not autoclavable. Whirl-Pak bags are sterilized with ethylene oxide gas. Documentation of sterility is available upon request. All Whirl-Pak bags feature ''PUNCTURE PROOF TABS.'' This patented process extends the tape on the tab past the wire ends eliminating the sharp points which could puncture the bags, scratch a persons hand, or puncture gloves. Resins used in the extrusion of film for Whirl-Pak bags are FDA approved for food contact. Bags are manufactured in accordance with the requirements for manufacturers of single service containers for milk and milk products, as specified by the Food & Drug Administration. Bags should not be used at temperatures above 180F, 82C. Bags can be frozen to any temperature, even liquid nitrogen. Careful handling is required after freezing. - Contains a pair of sterile polyethylene gloves, 25 ml buffered peptone water (with expiration date marked on the box) a Whirl-Pak ''Speci-Sponge'' Bag, and two disposable sterile templates, one for meat carcasses and one for turkeys.
- Acquire sample by moistening the sponge with half of the peptone water, the carcass is swabbed with the sponge through the template in three places for meat carcasses and two places on turkeys. The sponge is then returned to the bag and the balance of the peptone water is added. The bag is closed and sent to the laboratory for testing.
